Take Action to SAVE GreenThumb!

As many of you may already know, proposed federal budget cuts threaten the GreenThumb program and its support of New York City's Community Gardens! Please, spread the word by printing out and sharing NYCCGC's Action Alert and Petition to SAVE GreenThumb!

Please print & share the action alert and petition with your fellow gardeners and neighbors. Completed petitions can be brought to GreenThumb's GrowTogether on Saturday, April 2.

Right now, Congress has proposed cuts to eliminate funding for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for the remainder of 2011, and a nearly two-thirds reduction to future CDBG funds. GreenThumb receives 100% of its funding through CDBG and could be eliminated or have its overall budget severely cut if HR1 is signed into law.

Contact your Representatives in the House and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand on behalf of NYC’s community gardens! Be sure to mention that GreenThumb is an important CDBG funded program, important to your garden and your community.

Mail in filled-out petitions (mailing address here) or return it to a NYCCGC volunteer at the April 2 GrowTogether, where you'll hear more about NYCCGC's plans for a rally on the steps of City Hall in early April!
