On Saturday, May 14th, New York City Community Garden Coalition (NYCCGC) will present its 2011 Community Gardeners Forum. This year's event will be youth-driven, focusing on the talent and potential being displayed by youth in gardens and greening programs across New York City. This free event will feature interactive workshops, lively discussions, and live entertainment.

Our keynote speaker this year is Owen Taylor of Just Food. Owen has worked and supported both adults and youth extensively in programming and training; Just Food works to increase access to fresh, healthy, locally-grown food in NYC and to support the family farms and urban gardens that grow it. Owen will be joined onstage by Jazzmin Lyttle-Hylton, Miss Teen Earth Westchester, as they welcome representatives from several stand-out youth programs for a panel discussion.

Workshops on topics ranging from youth empowerment to school gardens will be offered - more details coming soon as the planning committee continues its outreach efforts to coordinate what will undoubtedly be the most energetic and exciting Forum yet!

The Forum's theme is in alignment with NYCCGC's mission this year to cultivate the next generation of garden leaders. To this end, the deadline for applications to its Summer Leadership Retreat has been extended - final applications will be accepted at the event. Full scholarships are available for this amazing week at a Vermont farm - all expenses paid!
