This Thursday, June 16, NYCCGC begins its annual tradition of holding its summer meetings in community gardens around the city, giving everyone a chance to see what's going on in other gardens and neighborhoods. Details below.
Earlier in the day, New York City Council will be holding an important hearing on two bills: one that would establish an annual food metrics report, and another that would mandate a comprehensive database of all City-owned real estate. This second proposal is of particular interest to new community gardeners and urban farmers, many of whom have found getting access to land frustrating, if not seemingly impossible.
City Council Hearing on proposed food metrics and City real estate reporting:
Thursday June 16, 10:00am
250 Broadway, 14th floor Committee Room
Bring ID and arrive early, as security is tight.
If you plan to testify (and we encourage you to do so), first contact Artyom Matusov, Legislative Policy Analyst for New York City Council, via email or by calling (212) 788-9095.
