The NYCCGC is proud to announce that on April 30th Board President Ray Figueroa will be awarded the Earth Day Environmental
Advocate of the Year Award presented by Earth Day New York and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The award presentation reads in part:
"The NRDC greatly values your diligence and determination to work for environmentally sound communities through your work at
Friends of Brook Park and the New York City Community Garden Coalition and your more than twenty years working on
New York City community advocacy, during which you have been an active and inspirational figure in the New York
community gardens movement and the urban farming movement as you have successfully brought together housing,
community economic development, jobs, youth and environmental justice activists. Your inspiring efforts in giving young
people a much greater appreciation for the urban environment and for building bridges for environmental betterment with
diverse constituencies are part of the reason why we are delighted to present you with this award".
The NRDC's annual awards party will be held at the Levi’s store in Meatpacking on Wednesday, April 30th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
We hope you will join us in celebrating Ray's leadership and achievements for all New Yorkers.
