POWER & SOVEREIGNTY!

The 3rd Black Farmers and Urban Gardeners Conference will be held, from November 8 - 10, 2013, in Brooklyn, New York.  The conference is organized by Black Urban Growers (BUGs), an organization committed to building networks and community support for growers in both urban and rural settings.

The Black Farmers and Urban Gardeners Conference (BFUGC) connects growers, eaters and organizations across the country to nurture the health and well being of Black America and the environment as a whole.  The first two BFUGCs drew hundreds of participants from as far as Michigan, South Carolina, California and Vermont.  The BFUGC is a place to explore issues of race, class, health and food through panel discussions, workshops, films and conversations.

Keynote Speakers:

Monica White, Ph.D.; Assistant Professor of Environmental Justice in the  Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and the Department of Community and Environmental Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Ben Burkett; President, National Family Farm Coalition
